The data was provided by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment, and Reporting Authority (ACARA) and included the deidentified NAPLAN scores from every Yr3, 5, 7, and 9 student in Australia who undertook the tests between 2013 and 2019. Each year’s data comprised approximately 1.25 million students, for a total sample size of approximately 8.5 million students. Because students are “nested” within schools and the student characteristics related to individual students whereas factors such as school location and type related to the school, multilevel modeling (MLM) was used to analyse the data.

   EXAMPLE PROJECT 2
       Expand

The Primary Teacher Workload Study and the Secondary Teacher Workload Study

For nearly twenty years, SREAMS has conducted the Victorian Department of Education’s annual Primary & Secondary Teacher Workload studies. Each year, SREAMS has collected workload data from approximately 2,000 primary teachers located in about 100 schools and approximately 2,000 secondary teachers located in about 30 schools. For each study, the raw data is compiled into a Primary or Secondary workload database. which is then used to compute average face-to-face teaching times and the average time spent on other, non face-to-face duties.

   EXAMPLE PROJECT 3
       Expand

LAP, AIM, and NAPLAN Professional Development

Since 1995, Victoria has had either a State-wide student assessment program (LAP then AIM) or has participated in the Australia-wide National Assessment Program (NAPLAN). In addition, since 1998, the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) has annually engaged a research company to teach school principals and teachers how to analyse, interpret, and use their school’s data for school improvement purposes. SREAMS has been asked to run these programs for the majority of those years, including the previous four contracts. Each year differs, but these data literacy workshops are typically held at different regional locations across the state. For example:

In 2019, SREAMS conducted 50 workshops across 25 different locations, plus five online webinars; in total, presenting to just under 1,000 participants.

In COVID-affected 2021, SREAMS conducted all 70 workshops as online webinars, presenting to nearly 2,200 participants.

INTERESTED IN ENGAGING SREAMS?

If you would like SREAMS to engage in your next research project, please contact as we will get back to you as soon as possible.

       CONTACT US

RESEARCH SERVICES WHAT WE OFFER 1.
