What is the Student Performance Analyser (SPA)?

•        The Student Performance Analyser (SPA) is a secure web-based tool for schools to manage and analyse their students’ performance.

•        SPA helps schools analyse and monitor the progress of individual students, groups of

students and whole school cohorts.

•        Over 1000 Government schools, Catholic schools and Independent schools (including three whole DEECD Regions and many whole Networks) are currently users of SPA.

SPA provides summative analysis of NAPLAN results, On-Demand (adaptive) results, ACER Testing Results and Teacher Judgement (VELS) assessments. (Additional new summative assessment tests are also being added at regular intervals.)

SPA also provides diagnostic analysis on the individual performance of each student on each question from the NAPLAN tests.

Individual responses to each NAPLAN question and group summary information on each question can be analysed in-depth so that appropriate measures can be taken to support individual and/or groups of students in future teaching and learning. (Additional new diagnostic tests are also being added at regular intervals.)

Student Achievement Report

By colour coding individual student NAPLAN scores, SPA easily identifies students working well below, at, and well above expected levels so teachers can strategically target ”at risk“ students and extend the performance of high achieving students.

NAPLAN results can be viewed as either NAPLAN scores or VELS equivalent scores and results can be filtered by class, gender, and LBOTE or ATSI status.

On-Demand (Adaptive) Report

Similarly, by colour coding individual student On-Demand VELS scores, SPA easily identifies students working well below, at, and well above expected VELS levels so teachers can strategically target ”at risk“ students and extend the performance of high achieving students.

Five-Year Trend Analysis

Use the previous five years' data (including AIM data) to make more informed judgements about your school’s typical performance rather than relying solely on the current year’s data.

Growth Analysis

Use the previous five cohorts of Year 3-5 or Year 7-9 students to make more informed judgements about how much value your

teachers are typically adding in the two years between NAPLAN administrations.

Alternatively, use mid-year and end-of-year On-Demand results to monitor student growth over six-monthly or twelve-monthly periods for years 3-10.

Diagnostics

Diagnostic information from NAPLAN includes both item analysis and Zone of Proximal Development information. For each question, the item analysis report shows the skill being assessed together with the number of students who answered correctly and how many students went for each of the incorrect answers.

The Zone of Proximal Development report shows each student’s response to each

question where the questions are sorted from easiest to hardest and the students are sorted from highest to lowest test score.

       Student Tracker and Class Tracker

Two new features in SPA include the facility to view all data held on any one student or Class on one screen. This information should provide more evidence for classroom teachers in their decisions in allocating their A-E mid-year and end-of-year VELS

assessments.

Teacher Judgement

Teacher Judgement reports show the VELS level allocated to each student together with summary information describing the

percentage of A’s, B’s C’s etc. allocated.

ACER Testing

ACER PAT-R, PAT-M and TORCH testing is also able to be imported into SPA for analysis in a similar easy to understand and read format.
